SPX Ideal For Green Liquor Application

International Paper (formerly Champion International) in Cortland, AL was having pumping problems with their diaphragm pump in Green Liquor Dregs service. They have used the single diaphragm pump in this service for many years, but needed to be able to control the flow rate more effectively. The dregs are pulled from the bottom of the green liquor clarifier and are very high solids content. Positive displacement pumps are the only real option for this service. But pumping abrasive slurries is a leading cause of maintenance concerns for most paper plants. The customer was introduced to the Bredel SPX pump.

The Bredel SPX pump is the ideal pump for transfer and metering of abrasive, highly viscous or particulate-laden raw materials. During compression, abrasive particles in the fluid are cushioned in the thick inner hose wall - returning to the fluid stream after compression without damaging the wall. The result is abrasive resistance and high volumetric efficiency, with accurate and reliable metering capability. These hose pumps require minimal maintenance since there are no moving parts in the product zone. The only wearing part, the hose, can be replaced easily in less than an hour without disassembling the pump.
